There are two pathways to joining the Catholic Church: Infant Baptism and RCIA
RCIA stands for Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. While St. Theresa does have RCIA for men and women above the age of 18, we also offer RCIA for Children between 7 and 17.
RCIA for Children is the same exact process that the adults go through, but the classes and material is specially adapted for younger minds.
Then why don't we just call it RCIC instead of RCIA? Because the Catholic Church teaches that any child who is seven (7) years or older is of a catechetical age. This means that they have the ability to reason and discern what we teach them about their faith. Thus, when they are presented for receiving the sacraments, they do so on their own faith and desire; not their parents' faith and desire as in infant baptism.
If you have a child who is either:
- Not Baptized
- Baptized, but in a different faith expression
- Baptized Catholic, but has not received any catechism or other sacraments
